1. Short course on Literature Search using PubMed and Managing References using Mendeley (28-29 April, 2018)

To strengthen the capability of literature search, International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (The Union), New Delhi, Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh and World NCD Federation jointly organized a two-day Short Course Literature Search using PubMed and Managing References using Mendeley from 28th to 29th April, 2018 in PGIMER, Chandigarh. The course was aimed at junior faculty/professionals (including junior residents, senior residents, PhD scholars and nursing students) of all medical discipline working in the medical college and public health programme setting. The course content was jointly developed and facilitated by The Union and QMed Knowledge Foundation. The curriculum was modular in the form of a series of exercises. The entire curriculum was based on the usage of PubMed and the free software for managing references - Mendeley. Participants were given an overview of PubMed for its scope and features. A total of 19 participants attended the course.

2. Short course on Efficient, quality-assured data capture using a mobile phone (27-28 July, 2018)

The two-day short course was conducted at Department of Community Medicine, School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh, during 27-28 July 2018. The course was conducted by the Department of Community Medicine, School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh in collaboration with Centre for Operational Research, International Union Against Tuberculosis and
Lung Diseases, The Union South east Asia Office, New Delhi under the aegis of World NCD Federation and North-zone Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine. In this short course, participants learnt how to design data capture forms and capture data using EpiCollect. Through this short course, we intended to build capacity of health professionals working in the medical colleges and health programmes in efficient and quality-assured data capture using a mobile phone. 20 participants were selected of the 40 applications received for the course.

3. Course on prevention and management of NCDs for nurses (16th to 17th August 2018)

Organizing Secretary : Dr. Kavita and Dr. Sushma, NINE, PGIMER.

Two days course on prevention and management of NCDs for nurses on the theme Nurse practitioners for chronic NCDs was organized by National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER in collaboration with World NCD Federation from 16th to 17th August 2018. The course aimed at sensitizing the nurses and also to prepare them so that they can play a great role in management of non-communicable diseases. A total of 52 participants from Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Pondicherry participated in the course. The course included the role of nurses in prevention and management of chronic NCDs such as Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, cancer and mental illnesses. Various experts also discussed about SDGs, Human resource for health, multisectoral action plan, NPCDCS, population based screening for common NCDs.

4. Beginners Course on Geographic Information System using Quantum-GIS (30th November -1st December 2018)

Two days course on Geographic Information System was organized in the Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health on 30th November and 1st December 2018 in collaboration with Centre for Operational Research, International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases, The Union South east Asia Office, New Delhi under the aegis of World NCD Federation and North-zone Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine. The course gave hands-on training on the software Q-GIS which is an open access software and tells how we can map the health data for management, monitoring and surveillance purposes. The course aimed at public health professionals, independent researchers, program officers and technologist working in the field of health. The course was attended by 19 participants.

5. National CME on Cancer Registries for Cancer Control (23rd January 2019)

Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh (PGIMER) in collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre Mumbai, World NCD Federation and Health Department, UT Chandigarh and Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab organized one day National CME on cancer registries for cancer control on 23rd January 2019 at Bhargava Auditorium, PGIMER Chandigarh. The CME highlighted upon population based cancer registries(PBCR) as a tool for cancer control for improving the programme and policies.
The National CME helped bring consensus how cancer registries can contribute to cancer control in the country. Eminent national experts on cancer registration and cancer control delivered their lectures during this CME. Shri. Vipin Kumar Parmar, Honourable Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Himachal Pradesh presided over the function as Chief Guest. The CME was attended by a total of 320 participants from different backgrounds.

6. Course on Prevention and Management of NCDs for nurses (3rd – 4th February 2020)

Two days’ course on prevention and management of NCDs for nurses on the theme “Nurse practitioners for chronic NCDs” was organized by National Institute of Nursing Education, PGIMER in collaboration with World NCD Federation from 3rd to 4th Feb 2020. A total of 77 participants from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh participated in the course. During the course the topics discussed were role of nurses in prevention and management of chronic NCDs such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension, stroke, cancer and mental illnesses. Various experts also discussed about SDGs, Human resource for health, multisectoral action plan, NPCDCS, population based screening for common NCDs. Panel Discussion on the theme “Nurse practitioners for chronic NCDs in Indian context” was chaired by Dr Sandhya Ghai in which different stakeholders from IGNOU and other educational institutions participated.
