Regional Office of World Non Communicable diseases (NCD) Federation, a professional Association working for Global Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) agenda, organized the 1st Regional Meeting of World NCD Federation at Gaborone, Botswana from 12 th -14 th December, 2018 with participation of key stakeholders from the region. The theme of the meeting was “Framing the NCDs Response and Realizing SDG-3 in Africa: Role of Communities, Culture and Governance”. It focused on the epidemiological transition in Africa, evidence based policies, strategies and guidelines for prevention, surveillance and management of NCDs and strengthening of primary health care approaches. The meeting provided a platform for discussion on a wide range of high level policy issues on the prevention and control of NCDs in the Africa region.


The objectives of the meeting were:


  • To discuss the latest advances and trends in detection, prevention, management and surveillance of NCDs in Africa region.
  • To increase the focus and understanding among the members on the dimensions of the health system, universal health care (UHC), SDGs for Noncommunicable disease (NCDs) in the region.
  • To discuss implementation challenges on the National NCD programmes at the national level in Africa region.
  • To share best practices, experiences, challenges and bottlenecks of different sectors with multisectoral participation for prevention and control of NCDs in Africa region
  • To provide a platform for a wide range of high level of policy issues on the prevention and control of NCDs in the Africa region.
  • To discuss the global NCD agenda and initiate policy dialogues among stakeholders, to scale up “Best Practices” and Public health innovation in NCDs in the region.
  • To provide a professional platform to build partnership with relevant professional associations, National and International NGOs and other multilateral agencies (e.g., UN, WHO, IARC, UICC) and Philanthropies in Africa region.
